Where the Science of Healing Becomes an Art

Auricular therapy makes an ideal complement to the classical acupuncture and other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine offered at Q Functional Medicine clinic. By providing multiple healing modalities that all enhance each other's effectiveness, we're able to offer customized "whole-body" treatment programs that can target specific conditions or simply help you optimize your wellness for life.
What's the Link Between Auricular Therapy and Chiropractic Care?
Other than the fact that it's a natural, drug-free technique for directing the body to put its own healing and pain relief capabilities to full use, auricular therapy also reinforces and facilitates the work performed by Dr. Lee at Q Functional Medicine Clinic. In addition to normalizing nerve function - which is also one of the principal goals of chiropractic treatment -- auricular therapy eases muscle spasms. This makes it much easier for spinal and postural adjustments to achieve stability for long-lasting benefits. Dr. Lee uses state-of-the-art equipment to pinpoint the exact areas needed in order to help cure your ailments and keep you feeling great.
What is Auricular Therapy?
Auricular Therapy is a form of alternative medicine based on the idea that the ear is a micro system, meaning that the entire body is represented on the auricle (or auricula, or pinna - the outer portion of the ear). In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the ear is an important organ having many points on it corresponding to the body systems and it is said that all the main meridians are crossing the ear. It is used to stimulate various organs and meridians in the body by using the ear. The ear represents a fetus in the womb but in an inverted position. It is a microcosm of the macrocosm: the ear represents the entire body.
How Does it Work?
The use of the ear is based on the rich and the multiple connections which it has on the central nervous system. The shape of the body is projected into the ear and every point of the body corresponds to a point of the ear. Acupuncture needles stimulates certain nerves on the ear, which send signals to the brain that in turn generates a response to the part of the body to be treated. A treatment takes only 20-30 minutes and a typical patient is treated twice a week for two to three weeks. Because of it ability to relax the mind and body, Auricular Therapy is very effective in the treatment of stress, depression, insomnia and anxiety.

Effective for Pain~
Perhaps the most well-known benefit of auriculotherapy is in the treatment of both acute and chronic pain. In the UNC-Chapel Hill study, researchers reviewed seventeen studies focused on auriculotherapy and pain relief. The researchers state in their conclusion, “Pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined, and accounts for more than 20% of medical visits and 10% of prescription drug sales. Auriculotherapy may be effective for the treatment of a variety of types of pain, especially postoperative pain.” Considering the growing dependence on drugs for chronic pain – to the level that we have a serious opiate addiction epidemic – auriculotherapy offers a non-addictive alternative that has zero major side effects.
Lose Weight Using Auricular Therapy~
Auriculotherapy uses nerve pathways. When a specific reflex point is stimulated, nerve pathways send a message to the brain based on the point being treated. The brain then sends a signal to the mouth, stomach, esophagus, small intestine, adrenal gland, appetite suppressant, antidepressant point and others. Auriculotherapy turns off the hunger impulse and helps the cravings go away. It does this by inhibiting smooth muscle tone in the gastric wall. This delays emptying of the stomach, helping you feel full longer.
Quit Smoking Using Auricular Therapy~
Auricular therpy can help you stop smoking if you’re ready to quit. This therapy dramatically reduces cravings for nicotine, usually after just one treatment! Acupuncture needles is used on reflex points on the outside of the ear. This treatment intercepts the nicotine-demanding messages that the brain sends to the body, breaking the cycle that drives addictive cravings.
